Happy Holidays! Tis the season for many things, like giving, being thankful, eating lots of food, and visiting family and friends! Well, all of those things are cetainly going on in my life. There has been a little light inside of me getting a bit brighter all the time... and its causing me to dust off those cobwebs of all things unused and packed away! I'm attributing all of this to the season, and realizing that this is the last Thanksgiving and last Christmas that I'll be spending without a husband! Wow! I think part of me feels like I need to start getting my act together, and being sure I can put together a holiday meal on a keenly decorated table, keep a house clean and smelling good with lots of people in it, and make sure that all of my guests are happy and content with full bellies of good food and sweet treats! Whew! Have I somehow morphed into some 1950's model Betty Crocker? I don't know for sure, but I can say that it doesn't pain me one bit, and that has me a little surprised! For those of you who've known me a while, I'm sure at least one of your eyebrows are raised in confusion!
With all that said, I can say that Thanksgiving at my house went off without a hitch! However, I certainly can't take all the credit! My mom was here, and she helped me a ton! Without her, I don't think dinner would have been served until midnight! She and I prepared all of the dishes on Thursday morning, and while I drove to pick Monte up at the airport, she kept a close eye on the oven to be sure that it all came out perfect. And so it did! The turkey was juicy, the carrots were sweet, the potatoes were creamy, the stuffing was great, and the green bean casserole was perfect. I couldn't even believe it, but Monte didn't even ask for any ketchup!!! Whaaaa??? We had homemade apple pie, homemade pumpkin bread, and pecan pie for desert! But by that time, there was little room left! After dinner, we played a few rounds of Apples to Apples, and really enjoyed each others company. It was such a great time!
The next day, Monte & I had our engagement pictures taken! What a fun time! Today I finally chose which ones I wanted to order in a package, and which ones we are going to use for our Save the Date cards! That's when I realized that our Guest List still isn't 100% complete. GAH! So, tonight, I buckled down and got some work done on this list, and asked for some serious help. Hopefully, very soon I'll have a complete guest list, and then I can move on to the next steps! Food!!
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Cheers,
E
